Conflict Resolution

I love conflict resolution.

The best part about conflict resolution is that things aren’t just back to normal after resolution but usually things are better.  Why is that?

Maybe that’s what’s so great about Jesus Christ.  And maybe that’s why God’s plan from the beginning is actually the better plan.  Meaning, being intimate with God before the fall is not going to be as good as being truly intimate with God after the fall.

And in that light, the kingdom of God is that much greater after it’s full restoration.  Exciting.

Commitment Violation

I violated my own rules by not blogging for a long time.  Or not blogging anything significant.  What is it about blogs that have its owners come and go as they please.  Neglecting, despising, missing, haha.

Blogging is definitely something that takes time.  And I guess usually what happens is, you find a lot of time on your hands, you feel lonely, you’re bored, etc. so you decide to blog.  The problem with that is there’s no commitment.  It’s a do-as-you-please mentality.  And that’s not good for anyone.

One thing I’ve learned so far in 2009 is the power and beauty of commitment.  You know that our God is a covenantal God.  It’s his commitment to us that makes his love perfect and beautiful.  It was because he was committed that he gave us Jesus, that he forgives, that he gives us chances, that he embraces when we sin.  He doesn’t say “I’m sick of you!” … he says “I’m commited to you, so come here, receive my love.”

This is exactly true for us too.  In our hobbies, actions, and especially relationships.  My advice to all you unsatisfied is this: Commit.  You’ll see how commitment can make things beautiful and you can experience first hand the joy of seeing and knowing the beauty of our covenantal God.

I Needed Today

Oh man I needed a work day like today.  Today was a day when I finished my work early and now I’m able to sorta just veg out in front of the computer and internet.  I needed some time for my brain to sorta just turn to mush cause the past couple days have been PACKED with stuff.

I put my headphones on and turned on my music and the song Desperate People by Hillsong came on and it was just so freaking clutch.  And right after word, Chris Tomlin’s Kindness came on and I was just like, “yo man praise God!  freakin praise God!”  haha.  It’s just so good to remember his mercy.

I read this psalm today and it just buried itself in my heart.

“Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORD”

Oh man how freaking sweet are those words.  David pleads to be in the Lord’s favor due to God’s shear mercy.  So many times I pray and think “c’mon God, I’ve been good!”  Lord, grant me the humility like David to realize how insanely I fall short - let that draw me to plead that you remember me according to your love and your goodness.

I have held many things in my hands, and have lost them all;
but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess.

Rust to Dust

This morning I had to do an internal vessel inspection for one of the butane driers in our unit.  The whole unit is new so there was some rust formation inside.  Climbing in and out of the vessel had me covered in orange rust from head to toe.  It reminded me of something that I had once heard..

Do you guys know who Rob Bell is?  He does those nooma videos.  If you dont know, you should check it out.  Some of the are pretty convicting.  In the last Nooma video I saw, I remember Rob Bell talking about the Jews back in the Jesus days.  Back then, Rabbis were chosen at a very young age.  Once they were chosen, they trained under an older experienced Rabbi and pretty much spent every waking hour following him and learning from him.  When they would walk together in the streets, the young rabbi would walk behind him and follow him.  And as you know, back in the day they didn’t have paved roads and sidewalks so inevitably what would happen is the younger rabbi would get covered in dust kicked up from the older rabbi.  It would be a tell-tale sign that you are a rabbi-in-training if you are covered.  Not only is it a sign, it’s a good sign.  It shows that you are in fact dedicated and committed in following and learning.

Back in those days, one of the ways you would bless these young rabbi’s is by saying to them “may you be covered in the dust of your rabbi.”  As I came out of this vessel, especially after enduring the last couple days, I couldn’t help but feel that the Lord was saying to me, “Eugene, be covered in the dust of your God - the One and Only.”

My joy-giver, my sustainer, my purpose, my reason for all reasons, my comfort, my hiding place, my best friend, my savior.  I will follow you to the ends of the earth.
